How do fertility drugs like clomid work?? Is there a certain date given my the doctor to have sex?
Hi I have been TTC for over one year now. I have been to a fertility clinic, the doctors did my hysterosalpingogram and that came out normal. They did a blood test as well and that was alright too... But my cycle is very irregular varies from 30 to 50 days. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years back... At that time i was not having any periods at all. But after taking thyroid slowly and gradually my cycle has improved... i..e from a year to 6 months from 6 mths to 3 months and now thankfully 30-50 days... Tomorrow is my second appt with the fertility doctor, he said the next step wud be fertility drugs. Do u know how clomid works? Will the doc actually tell me the date to actually have sex???? how will i know that i am ovulating....

Clomid is given early in the cycle like day 3,4or5 I took it on day 5. You take 1 pill everyday for about 5 days maybe 6 depending on what the Doc. says is best for you. About 8-10 days after you take the last pill you should ovulate. The doc. will give you an ultra sound to check how many eggs you have and will test your LH using blood work and he will check your cervical muscus to see if it's good clomid does make some women dry in which case they may do insemination to bypass the cervix all together(i had this done too)so yes they will tell you when your about to ovulate and when to have sex.
How it works....
Clomid attaches to the receptors in the brain telling theit that estrogen and progesterone are low the brain then tell the body to make more of these hormones in very large amounts thus stimulating the ovaries to produce several mature eggs at once ( i had 6) when the eggs are mature enough they will burst from the ovaries in to the Fallopian tubes to be fertilized. I took clomid and got preg, the 1st time I used it after ttc for about 2 years I also had to take metfromin for my pre-diabetes which I still take I'm 14 weeks along. Hope you have success and Good Luck = ) Oh yeah PS. Also since clomid is not a hormone you can use ovulation kits and pergnancy tests with out the results being altered.
